Project Description

The MaWRiN Project is a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing the resilience of communities in Nepal to the adverse effects of climate change.

Overview

“Managing Watersheds for Enhanced Resilience of Communities to Climate Change in Nepal (MaWRiN) Project” adopts an integrated watershed approach. By tackling vulnerabilities and hardships, the project aims to strengthen the long-term climate resilience of indigenous and local communities. Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the project is implemented through an agreement between the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) (WWF GEF Agency) and the Ministry of Forests and Environment (Project Executing Agency),Government of Nepal, and the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Bagmati Province (Project Executing Partner).

Collaboration & Stakeholders

Implemented by WWF Nepal in partnership with provincial and local governments, civil society organizations, and community-based institutions, the project emphasizes multi-stakeholder collaboration to ensure inclusive and sustainable outcomes.

Nature-based Solutions

The project promotes Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), including reforestation, soil conservation, rainwater harvesting, and agroforestry systems, to enhance ecosystem services and build long-term resilience in vulnerable communities.

Monitoring , Evaluation and Knowledge Management

Monitoring ,Evaluation and Knowledge Management A robust M&E system has been established to track progress, document lessons learned, and scale up successful interventions across similar ecosystems and communities in Nepal.
